Energy can flow for example heat(or work) can be supplied/rejected at system boundary but mass can not transferred across the system boundary.
Example:
An oven that we use in our home. Once we keep the food in the box and close the door of oven. No more mass can go in or out of the oven. But we can transfer the energy (heat) to the food.
In a steam power plant, the condenser is an open system.
An open system is the one through which the mass flows in and out of the control volume.
Condenser takes in the steam coming out from the outlet of steam turbine at low pressure and low temperature then converts it into saturated liquid state and forwards it towards pump.
Got it thanks for explaining:)
have a nice day
Thanks a lot for explaining,
can you also give an example of a closed system?? please
also isn't there only heat(energy) exchange, what if we make our system boundary smaller to point (shown in image), does it become closed then?

Hence it is an open system.
