Is condenser closed or open in a basic steam power plant?
My Proff said it's closed since it has ability to intake mass and exhaust mass for both source and sink

can you also give an example of a closed system?? please
also isn't there only heat(energy) exchange, what if we make our system boundary smaller to point (shown in image), does it become closed then?
In a steam power plant, the condenser is an open system.
An open system is the one through which the mass flows in and out of the control volume.
Condenser takes in the steam coming out from the outlet of steam turbine at low pressure and low temperature then converts it into saturated liquid state and forwards it towards pump.
Hence it is an open system.
