What is characteristic length Lc? What is the meaning of characteristic length in Nusselt number?

Ans: The characteristic length is different for different cases of problems.

The characteristic length in transient heat transfer problem is volume/area, whereas in convection problems it is length of flat plate for flow or flat plate case, the diameter of pipe for internal flows, and diameter for flow over cylinders.
