What is the difference between LMTD and AMTD?

Ans: LMTD is always less than AMTD. Therefore if AMTD is used in calculations instead of LMTD it will overestimate the rate of heat transfer in a heat exchanger between two fluids.

LMTD is obtained by tracing the actual temperature profile of the fluids along the heat exchangers and it is an exact representation of the average temperature difference between hot and cold fluids.
