The temperature to which steam can be superheated is limited by metallurgical considerations. That is the steam can not be heated beyond the temperature where the material of the system starts disintegrating or losing its properties.
As shown in the figure below, there is a maximum temperature (metallurgical limit)
beyond which the steam can not be superheated.
