The Reynolds number at which the flow becomes turbulent is called the critical Reynolds number.


The value depends on geometries and flow conditions.


For internal flow in the circular pipe the critical Reynolds number is (Re)cr = 2300


In the case of flow over a smooth flat plate, the critical Reynolds number (Re)x,cr is 5*10^5
