Why does kinetic energy terms in the steady flow energy equation are divided by 1000?

Answer:

In the Steady flow energy equation, generally, the enthalpy, heat transfer, and work transfer terms are in the units of kJ/kg.

When the kinetic energy term (V^2)/2 is calculated it comes in the unit of J/kg. Therefore, to have the same units throughout the steady flow energy equation kinetic energy and potential energy terms are divided by 1000.
