For what kind of configurations of fins do we use the modified Bessels functions to calculate fin efficiency?

Ans: For fins with non-uniform cross sections the Bessel Functions have to be used to calculate heat transfer and efficiency.

Some examples of fins with non-uniform cross sections:

  1. Straight Triangular Fins

  2. Straight Parabolic Fins

  3. Circular Fins of rectangular profile

  4. Pin fins of Triangular profile

  5. Pin fins of Parabolic profile with blunt tip
