What is the effect of temperature on the viscosity of gases?

Ans: The viscosity of the gases increases with temperature.

The viscosity of the gases increase with temperature.

Reason:

  1. As the temperature increases the gas molecules at high temperature move randomly at higher velocities.

  2. This causes, more molecular collisions per unit volume per unit time and therefore greater resistance to the flow.

Sutherland's equation gives the relationship between the temperature and viscosity of gases.
