How does the fouling factor affect heat transfer?

Ans:

1. Fouling decreases heat transfer

2. Increases thermal resistance to heat transfer

3. Reduces pipe diameter (causing more head loss and hence increases pumping power)

4. Increases cost

5. Larger heat exchanger is required for intended purpose (including cost)
