Vapor Compression Refrigeration Cycle - GATE ME '99

R717 (ammonia) system operates on the basic vapor compression refrigeration cycle. The evaporator and the condenser pressures are 0.119 MPa and 1.389 MPa respectively. The mass flow rate of refrigerant is 0.1 kg/s. If the volumetric efficiency of the compressor is 84%, determine the compressor displacement rate. If the COP of the cycle is 2, determine the power input to the compressor.

Saturation properties:

At -30 C,

P = 0.119 MPa

vg = 0.9638 m3/kg

hf = 63.9 kJ/kg

hg = 1423.6 kJ/kg

At 36 C,

P = 1.389 MPa

vg = 0.0930 m3/kg

hf = 371.4 kJ/kg

hg = 1488.6 kJ/kg
